Site: Index → Profile   Located at 6 districts in 2 cities ( Xi’an and Baoji ), Northwest Institute for Nonferrous Metal Research (NIN Group) is the key national base for the research of rare metal materials and an important center for professional technology development in China. NIN is the backing of the National Engineering Research Center for Rare Metal Materials Processing and Northwest Quality Supervision & Test Center of Chinese Nonferrous Metal Industry. Up to now, RMB 1.12 billion assets and over 2000 sets of instruments and equipments in NIN. Its synthetic income is approached to RMB 480 million in 2004. More than 1200 employees in NIN among them over 600 scientific technicians, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 180 professors and senior engineers and more than 100 doctors and masters.   After 40 year’s development with the management mode combined with basic research, engineering and industrialization together, NIN has recently become a key research institute of national rank with fully reinforced strength of integrated science, an engineering institute and a large scientific & technological enterprise (group) composed of several industrialization companies. Materials research field of the NIN group also has a considerable influence in the international academic circle. More than 700 scientific achievements and 120 patents have been gained. At the same time, NIN has strengthened achievement transferring and engineering projects. Over 8500 new products have been developed and fabricated. Engineering research projects and several national new & high-tech industrialization model projects have been undertaken. More attention has been paid in the group to the proceeding of scientific & technological industrialization. And industrialization group with fully reinforced strength has been already formed here.   NIN also plays an important role in domestic and international academic circles. It is the committee member, president or board member of more than 10 organizations such as ITA, ICMC, IUMRS, International Plansee Refractory Metal Research Association, C-MRS and so on. The governmental cooperation and exchange projects have been made for many years with USA, Japan, Germany, France, Russia, Austria, Poland etc.
