Welcome to XI’AN!

  On the initiative of the Center of the International Cooperation of Precious Metals Producers and Consumers and the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Scientific and Industrial Complex Supermetal”, with a support of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, the Association of Trade chambers of Germany and the International Informatization Academy under the UNO and OSWELT GmbH (Germany), two International Conferences “Platinum Metals in the Modern Industry, Hydrogen Energy and Life Maintenance of the Future” (Berlin-PM‘2005–2006) successfully took place in May 2005 and in September 2006.
  The problems of the efficient use of noble metals, taking into account the limited natural resources of them and continuing increase of consumption, especially in the new fields of application, first of all, in hydrogen energy, were in the center of attention at the Conferences. With this in mind, the participants of the Conferences have decided to broaden the subjects of future conferences and seconded the proposal of the Donetsk Engineering and Physical Center (Ukraine) to arrange and hold a number of scientific and technical conferences “Platinum Metals in the Modern Industry, Hydrogen Energy and Life Maintenance of the Future”. The Organizing Committee of “Berlin-PM’2006” was advised to apply to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, the Nonferrous Metals Society of China and other organizations in Russia and China, to support the Third International Conference “Platinum Metals in the Modern Industry, Hydrogen Energy and Life Maintenance of the Future” in May 2008 in the city of XI’AN – PM’2008, China, and participate in it. An official support has been obtained from the Nonferrous Metals Society of China, and the formation of the International Organizing Committee is being completed.
  Plenary papers, posters and short communications are expected to be presented, and a round table discussion will take place at the Conference.
  You will also have an opportunity to exhibit your working specimens and models or other exhibits. The publication of the Conference Proceedings is planned. Social events will be available for the participants.
  The Organizing Committee of “XI’AN – PM’2008” is planning to send about 1000 invitations to more than 30 countries in Europe, Asia, America, Africa and Australia for the participation in the Conference.
  The OSWELT GmbH (Germany), and the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Scientific, and Industrial Complex Supermetal” (Russia) have been appointed as the administrative organizers of the Conference.
  The purpose of the Third International Conference “XI’AN - PM’2008” consists in the determination of the strategic directions of research studies and practical developments that will ensure the solution of the following vitally important problems:
  environmentally safe recovering of platinum metals from all kinds of primary and secondary raw materials;
  minimization of the rate of consumption of platinum metals in all fields of application;
  optimization of economy of production of platinum metals and themanufacture of platinum metal products and application of them.
  We suggest the following subjects for papers and short communications, as a draft of the scientific and technical program of the Conference:
  1. Platinum metals production:
  processing of the primary and secondary platinum metals raw materials;
  manufacture of platinum metal products.
  2. Platinum metals in the modern industries:
  chemical and petrochemical industries;
  mineral fertilizers industry;
  glass and basalt fiber, single crystal and high-quality glass production;
  electrical engineering and electronic industry;
  environmentally friendly technologies of purification and processing of industrial and motor vehicle emissions.
  3. Platinum metals in fuel cells and of hydrogen energy technologies:
  fuel cells and accompanying technologies;
  hydrogen production & purification technologies;
  electrolytic cells, devices for conversion of natural gas, methanol and other hydrocarbon raw materials;
  production of hydrogen from biomass;
  solar-hydrogen and wind-hydrogen power engineering;
  unconventional methods of hydrogen production (thermo-chemical cycles; plasma-chemical methods, etc.);
  hydrogen storage technologies (cryogenic storage, metal-hydride accumulators);
  technologies of application of hydrogen as an energy carrier: standard combustion, catalytic combustion; hydrogen as a reducing agent and chemical reagent;
  technologies of safety in production, purification, transportation, storage and use of hydrogen (hydrogen sensors, safety systems).
  4. Platinum metals in life maintenance technologies and consumption goods:
  food industry and pharmaceutical industry;
  medicine and dentistry;
  jewelry and consumption goods.
  Round table discussion: ”Ways and means to prevent hydrogen economy crisis induced by deficiency of platinum metals”.
